Creature Feature Friday

The Yunnan Mountain Rat Snake (Oreocryptophis p. pulchra) originates from China. Their natural habitat ranges from tropical mountains to the edges of dense forests.
This is a very beautiful snake that is rarely seen in captivity compared to other more common rat snake species.

Yunnan rat snakes are fairly shy and secretive but calm in temperament. For their enclosure they prefer a substrate of relatively deep coco fiber for them to burrow in. They also like a humid environment, so you will need to regularly spray the tank. Branches, bark or rock will make natural hides for the rat snake to explore.
